Overview
The story begins in a household of three in a small apartment. Very soon it becomes a household of five, when the Whitakers' daughter, Kitty, moves in with her baby, her husband having gone off to the war. Eventually it becomes a household of seven, when the Whitakers' son, Archie, and his wife decide to have their baby there because the hospitals are full up. At the first curtain, as you have guessed, it has become a household of eight. A household of eight, not counting maids who come and go and whose idiosyncrasies add to the gaiety. Added to this there is Dr. Bartell whose professional visit marks the peak of the fun.
