Overview

The popular authors of some of our most widely produced plays have now written a new comedy that is different. HEAD IN THE CLOUDS retains all the humor and liveliness and surprise of such hilarious comedies as AND CAME THE SPRING, LIFE OF THE PARTY and TOO MANY DATES. Amy Matthews is a typical and attractive girl in her teens whose fertile imagination creates a wonderful, fantastic, idealistic world in which she enjoys wild triumphs over her present problems and her snobbish rival. One time she is a famous actress; then she is a great and celebrated healer (a la "Arrowsmith"); she is the first woman Justice of the Supreme Courtand so forth. But the audience witnesses these scenesright in the simple living room set! What's more, the characters of the play all take part in the daydreams, tooin incongruous and amusing ways. All these brief and hilarious daydream scenes are integrated into a strong story of the present. All turns out better than could be expectedwith Amy's photograph in "Life" magazinebut only after Amy has come to some sobering realizations about life itself. A comedy of genuine quality, it provides the answer to that recurrent plea: "Give us a play that is unusual!" Audiences are going to be grateful for the human warmth and comedy of HEAD IN THE CLOUDS.
