Overview

The illuminating drama of a modern career woman, with an excellent central role for an actress. Uta Hagen, in "an uncommonly beautiful performance" (Times), played the part of a rising young advertising executive and divorcee, whose energies were spent in trying to compete as an equal in a man's world and to fulfill her duties as a mother in her son's world. In the public world of commerce she is competing with a man for a vice presidency. She finally wins it, but it is an unsatisfying victory gained only after the man had turned it down. In the private world of her life with her son, she has the difficult problem of consoling him on the absence of his father, and of trying to make her own new love affair rational to a young boy who does not understand.
