Overview

The story of John Lambert's four daughters and their sweet but turbulent romances. Lavell, the oldest daughter, returns from college to find her family eagerly anticipating her marriage to Charles, her girlhood sweetheart. Meanwhile she has fallen in love with another man. However, Paul (the new man) tells her that she reminds him of Lilacs in the Rain, then uses the same line on her younger sister, so disillusionment follows and the brief infatuation comes to an end. A happy conclusion is brought about by Shauna, the youngest of the Lamberts. The pathos of the play is provided by Letty Lambert, the thirteen year-old daughter who feels that she is rejected by her family. Complicated and mixed up Prom dates of Laurie's result in the father tossing three boy friends out. The play is a mixture of laughter and tears, a typical slice of American home life.
