Sisters

Overview

Two sisters meet after a long separation at the younger's, Carol's, north-county council house. The elder, Adrienne, has escaped from a psychiatric hospital, unbeknown to Carol, and indulges in drink, dreams and fantasies of success, egged on by Carol's fond childhood reminiscences. Tom, Carol's violent husband, has similar flights of fantasy, glorying in his days as a professional footballer to offset his present occupation as a pimp for the girls who share his council house. After a night of merrymaking to celebrate Adrienne's arrival, Tom climbs in Adrienne's bed when she is too drunk to realize who it is. The next morning, as Adrienne confesses, Carol begins to realize there is something seriously wrong with her sister, but can only watch when the authorities arrive and take Adrienne, screaming, back to the hospital.
