Overview

A riotous and provocative comedy about Hollywood, Joy to the World was successfully produced in New York at the Plymouth Theatre with Alfred Drake and Marsha Hunt. Mingled with satirical scenes satirizing Hollywood hi-jinks and cinema eccentrics is the; swiitly paced story of Alexander Soren, young, dynamic Hollywood producer. He had delivered a radio address attacking censorship and condemning the screen's concern with inconsequentials without being fully aware of what he was saying. The speech had been written for him by a bright and beautiful girl researcher. Romance steps in, and Soren decides to stick by the speech. In a brilliantly climactic scene he refuses to retract the address via a broadcast and gets fired. However, an idealistic film magnate, who had discharged him ten years before, comes to his rescue.
