Overview
Set in a community animal shelter, Sheltered Friends is a musical for young audiences. The characters' stories are inspired by real shelter animals. Miss Belle, the cranky "shelter cat,"and Henry, an older, mixed breed dog, offer a tour of the shelter and introduce the audience to the many different animals there who are hoping for a happy home. These include guinea pigs; puppies; a dog who was deemed "too dangerous"; a cat who was returned because her fur didn't match a rug; a deaf cat; and a chorus of street dogs and cats. With eight songs ranging from mambo to rap to blues to ballad, the animals learn about friendship while the audience comes to understand the importance of humane treatment of pets and animals. This is a good script for pre-teens and teens to perform for younger children.
