Zanne Hall
In Communist China, Hsu is a teenage boy, half-Chinese, Half-Tibetan, living in the political turmoil of his age. In this beautiful coming-of-age story, a young Chinese boy is visited by Liu-Lang, a good hearted ghost, who sends him on a mystical pilgrimage in search of Enlightenment. The boy's parents grudgingly give him permission and with Liu-Lang, he meets up with zany characters who test his endurance as he attains wisdom and manhood. In this present day story, the Old China of ancestor reverence and sage folklore clash with the new China of political allegiance. Vibrant story-telling and is excellent for young children as well as middle and high school students.
