Overview

A prosperous new firm has been founded on the ruins of an old, though it has taken the board six years to recover their good name following an embezzlement by one of their members. One of the creditors of the old firm took his life in despair, and his daughter has taken a position with the new firm in order to avenge him. She had discovered the assumed name of the absconder, and by a very clever ruse arranges for him to be present at the time of a board meeting, where she will have him "tried." In the course of the confrontation, however, the airtight case against the absconder crumbles; and the finger of guilt points equally to each board member. The supposed absconder has been doing a little detective work himself. The truth is, the new firm is now in precisely the same position as the old one when it was ruined; and the same culprit is at this very moment planning the same defalcation that will wreck the new firm as well. Who is the culprit? The action tenses to a clean kill at the climax.
