Overview

The earliest of Ibsen's social-problem plays, A Doll's House catapulted him to international recognition. Combining technique and content in the play's realism, he employed natural dialogue and situations; insisting on the logical necessity of the outcome in a time of women's growing discontent with the social reverberations of Nora's slamming the door as she leaves Torvald continues to the present day.
