Overview

This play is absolutely perfect for high school students because it was written by two extraordinarily funny and perceptive teenagers. It is the story of Jesse Baxter, a skinny, wimpy, confused kid (with an active imagination) who wants only one thing: to take Brittany Farnsworth, the most popular, gorgeous girl in the school to the prom. Following loosely the legend of Icarus, the boy, ignoring advice from his guardian angel, coach and friends, races blindly to the sun and tries to be the Casanova. Despite Brittany's immense boyfriend, Mike Forrest, the fact that Brittany despises Jesse, and Jesse's own bizarre ways, he actually ends up on a "dream date" with Brittany. As you might imagine, it is closer to a nightmare. In the words of the young playwrights, "If you never take the advice of people more knowledgeable than yourself, you will eventually suffer the consequences of your own ignorance. Unfortunately, it looks like Jesse Baxter will have to suffer more consequences before he learns his lesson."
