Annabel Lee

Overview

Drinking in his office at the university late one night, a Professor named Reynolds is in despair over a dead child and a lost wife when he is visited by Annabel, a student of his who is very excited about her paper on Poe's "Annabel Lee." His increasingly exasperated attempts to get rid of her don't seem to phase her. Her head is full of ideas, both about the poem and about the Professor, and gradually, with a charming but disconcerting mixture of tactlessness and wisdom, sympathy and rudeness, unexpectedly brilliant insights and unlikely theories, she begins to bring him, slowly, out of his shell and back to life. Funny and moving, and an excellent showcase for a smart young actress.
